New pension rules better known
PME wants to switch to the new pension rules five months from now. But what do people actually know about these new rules? And what do they think of the switch? We have looked into this.
Earlier this year, we conducted a survey among people with a pension at PME. We conduct surveys on a regular basis, each time among a different group. You may also have received an invitation to participate.
Well informed
The study shows that most people are quite well informed. For example, 87% know that the Netherlands has new pension rules (2025: 86%). 81% know that the new rules will also have an effect on pensions at PME (2025: 78%).
People who knew about these two developments were asked a number of follow-up questions. For example, about things that stay the same. For example, as many as 95% of the people surveyed know that PME will continue to invest under the new rules for the best possible pension (2025: also 95%). 86% of pensioners know that their pension can change once a year (2025: 81%).
Changes
If we look at what people know about the upcoming changes, the results are mixed. 92% of those surveyed know that they will have a pension pot that can go up and down and that this depends, among other things, on the investments (2025: 90%). 70% know that measures will be taken for people who receive a pension that reduce the risk of lower pensions (2025: 65%). And well over 60% of people who accrue a pension at PME know that some employees are eligible for compensation: a big jump from 36% in 2025. If you would like to know if you might be eligible for compensation, this page about compensation will tell you all about it.
Neutral
What we also wanted to know is what people think about the switch to the new pension rules. People are mainly neutral (2025: 50%, 2026: 54%). However, the group that has a positive or even very positive view has grown (2025: 17%, 2026: 24%) and the group that has a negative or even very negative view has shrunk (2025: 33%, 2026: 23%).
Finally, we asked those surveyed how confident they were that PME will convert the current pension to the new rules with care. They gave a score of 7.4, which is higher than last time (2025: 6.9).
What do we do with the results?
We learn a lot from them. The results show us the topics that people know quite a lot about and which they don’t. This will allow us to better inform you. And that is important now that the switch that PME wants to make is fast approaching on 1 January 2027. So, if you receive an invitation at some point, be sure to participate!
